Hiking in the Rockies

When we got home from Colorado last night, Dave said “I am going to plan our next trip right now.” We had an amazing time, minus the car squabbles that almost sent my 3 beautiful children packing (ha!) and learned so much about the land.

If you are new here, we are planning on taking our children on more frequent, shorter trips to get them outside of their bubble and appreciate all aspects of the world God has created, nature and cultures. Dave and I both grew up moving a lot, and, since that does not seem to be in the near future for us, we are creating adaptability through travel. We’ve been studying each area we go to, eating local food when possible, having the children talk to the people around us and giving them the reigns at restaurants and in the airport. It’s been so fun and a blessing to see them grow in confidence.

This past week we visited Rocky Mountain National Park, ate deer meat, hiked mountains, saw waterfalls, fed chipmunks with our bare hands, and even watched the elk rut. My favorite part was looking out over the vast mountain range and seeing Dave soak it all in. Nothing like a man admiring his Creator (tears).

I took hiking attire on as a challenge, spending an hour combing pinterest for “elevated hiking outfits” and finding absolutely nothing. It seems hippie grunge is the reinging style. I decided to try my hand at a more chic look, not sure if I accomplished it but it was a fun challenge. I’ve loved these boots for a few years and wear them all the time to soccer games, pumpkin patches etc. For the more rugged hiking I wore my L.L.Bean boots for ankle support.
